Ep. 057 – From Codependence to Christ-Dependence with Kate Smith from Catch the Fire | Part 2: Anger, Attachment, and the Father’s Love

In Part 2, Dr. Barbara and Kate Smith from Catch the Fire go even deeper into the heart work of moving from codependence to Christ-dependence—especially in marriage and leadership.
They talk honestly about anger toward husbands, childhood trauma, and how unhealed judgments toward our parents get “reaped” in our marriages. Kate shares how her father’s rage showed up later in her reactions to Duncan, and how repentance, forgiveness, and inner healing have changed the way they communicate.
You’ll hear about healthy time-outs, humility (“humility has no worthy opponent”), and learning to say, “When you said this, I felt…” instead of attacking. Dr. Barbara shares about her own journey with Tim, their relational agreements, and what it looks like to do deep 12-step style heart work with Jesus.
They also talk about the spiritual dynamics leaders face (including Jezebel/Ahab dynamics and the “past is present” in ministry) and Dr. Barbara releases a prophetic word over Kate and Duncan about their next season of mentorship.
The episode ends with a powerful time of prayer for your heart, your marriage, your leadership, and your journey out of codependence into the Father’s arms.
